Total Failure of the U.S. Political System

Eternal Shame, Nothing But Shame

Shame, and eternal shame, nothing but shame! (The Duke of Bourbon, Henry V)

Why isn’t President Trump being impeached and removed for cause?

This week he went before the United Nations and once again threatened a nation of 93 million people (Iran) with total annihilation. Defying Congress, he seeks to build a triumphant arch in DC complete with snipers, ammunition, and other weapons and surveillance equipment. He illegally bans news agencies from the White House. He’s doing everything possible to steal elections in November. He has embraced militarism and war while choosing himself as America’s greatest president in history. He dismisses climate change as “fake news” even as he accelerates fossil fuel production in the most sensitive environmental areas. He openly uses the office of the presidency to enrich himself and his family.

Trump has never had any desire to support and defend the U.S. Constitution. He has never been a public servant. Like Richard Nixon before him, Trump believes he is above the law, or as Nixon infamously put it, When the president does it, that means it’s not illegal.

There is no more serious threat to America than a lawless president. A president who refuses to support and defend the U.S. Constitution is one that must be removed from office. This is not about being a Republican or Democrat. This is not about partisanship. This is about serving one’s country and upholding the law of the land.

Tolerating a U.S. president who wages illegal wars, who threatens genocide against another people, brings nothing but shame. Trump has threatened the equivalent of 15 Holocausts against Iran—more than 90 million dead, an ancient civilization obliterated because it refuses to bend the knee to Trump’s will.

How can any constitutional republic tolerate such a dangerously unhinged leader?

  1. “How can any constitutional republic tolerate such a dangerously unhinged leader?”

It’s important to keep in mind Chris Hedges’ caveat from nearly two years ago:

“President-elect Donald Trump does not herald the advent of fascism. He heralds the collapse of the veneer that masked the corruption within the ruling class and their pretense of democracy. He is the symptom, not the disease. The loss of basic democratic norms began long before Trump, which paved the road to an American totalitarianism. Deindustrialization, deregulation, austerity, unchecked predatory corporations, including the health-care industry, wholesale surveillance of every American, social inequality, an electoral system that is plagued by legalized bribery, endless and futile wars, the largest prison population in the world, but most of all feelings of betrayal, stagnation and despair, are a toxic brew that culminate in an inchoate hatred of the ruling class and the institutions they have deformed to exclusively serve the rich and the powerful. The Democrats are as guilty as the Republicans.”

  2. As for climate change – I have an idea that would turn the tide of public opinion in a few days.

Find a way to make CO2 visible, just like smoke. It would be seen pouring from every exhaust pipe. Anyone hitting the gas would produce a dense cloud of “smoke”. The air would immediately turn foggy as we experienced when the Canadian wildfire smoke came south and made the sun dim at midday (at least it did here in Chicago)

The air would never be clear, no blue sky would be seen, the sun would always be orange and one could look at it without being blinded.

People would react in fright realizing what we are doing every single day as we alter the climate carelessly because we cannot see what we are doing as we do it.

20 pounds of CO2 is created with every gallon of gasoline burned. A bit more for diesel. Because we don’t see it, we can pretend it doesn’t exist. I am sure over my lifetime I have driven 500,000 miles +. At 20mpg that comes out to 25,000 gallons of gas X 20 = 500,000 pounds of CO2 which floats in the air for hundreds of years per NASA.

I passed the local Cadillac dealership today. Out in front on the concrete pad where they display the model that will impress the passing public sat a four-rear-wheel (tandem) pickup truck, this at a “car” dealer – a Cadillac pickup and this given pride of place when gasoline prices are higher than ever.

Insanity, we are all insane and much money is being made thereby, more incredible than the fortune made by the MIC because we individually choose to participate.

    1. A handy way to see what I suggested – NASA’s satellite that depicts CO2 in false color. There is an animation from 2002 to 2016. At lower right click the dropdown to change from 16 DAY COMPOSITE to ANIMATION FROM 2002. Use your mouse to rotate the globe so you can see the advancing date which is shown over South American, Africa and Australia.

Note that the animation ends in 2016 with CO2 at 410ppm. We are now ten years beyond that. CO2 has risen to over 425ppm. It is rising at about 1% per year now over the peak it reached 300,000 years ago. We are approaching a 50% increase since 1915 when that archaic previous high was matched.

      Americans don’t care.
