Hiroshima Plus Nagasaki
SEP 16, 2026
The Trump administration plans to give 40 kilotons of “conventional” bombs to Israel. Put differently, that’s 40,000 bombs, each with a ton of HE or high explosive. Naturally, it’s the American taxpayer who foots the bill as it’s labeled as aid to Israel.
Forty kilotons is a little more than the combined yield of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima (15 kilotons) and Nagasaki (21 kilotons) in 1945.
2000-pound bombs are not precision weapons. They flatten entire city blocks. Israel doesn’t need them for self-defense; it “needs” them to erase Gaza and its people from the map. (Or perhaps to attack Iran with in conjunction with U.S. forces. Or both.)
The other “Made in America” product that Israel orders in bulk is giant bulldozers. They’re in high demand to move the rubble around and entomb the bodies of the dead. A few of these bulldozers are now driverless or robodozers.
Mega-bombs and giant robodozers: all this death and destruction is explained away as “Israel’s right to exist.”
The world truly makes no sense anymore.

“An American-made Mark 84 has a destruction radius of half a mile. It releases a thermal wave the temperature of the surface of the sun. Within 100 feet of the explosion, rock melts and human flesh turns to vapor,” Carlson said. – From the Anti-War article.
“As commander-in-chief, I will ensure America always has the strongest, most lethal fighting force in the world.” – Kamala Harris, keynote address, DNC August 2024.
“… giant bulldozers. They’re in high demand to move the rubble around and entomb the bodies of the dead. A few of these bulldozers are now driverless or robodozers.” – W.J. Astore.
Thus we see the culmination of American education, science, politics, and economic product. Leader of the free world. Beacon of democracy. “Liberty and justice for all.” “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”
I wish Substack would allow insertions of graphics. A New Yorker cartoon would be very fitting. It depicts the familiar prophet in sackcloth and sandals walking in public but instead of the usual “The End Is Near” written on the sign he’s carrying is “This Time For Certain.”
“The world truly makes no sense anymore.” You can say that again.
“The world truly makes no sense anymore.”

Something odd. While the US leads the world in selling state of the art weaponry, the actual fighting that goes on is done with low tech weapons, drones coming to prominence.
I read that the Houthis brought down a Saudi F15 and then a couple of days later that the US is selling 45 F15s to the Saudis. As an aside, we are supposed to be upgrading the US nuclear force, something that can never be used.
We have a situation where the US is making big money selling high tech killing machinery to lots of countries but we don’t see those countries putting the weapons to use against each other.
When we do see US high tech weapons used they are applied to the helpless as in Gaza, or in Iran where there is no effective anti-aircraft capability, in other words, for slaughter/destruction by Israel.
Buying prestige by dictators is a factor as is being a loyal ally of the US by the dripping with wealth Arab oil states. Dependable profit making by the US companies is a big factor as is reducing the foreign trade deficit but the super duper weapons mostly sit unused. Their use against the helpless has destroyed the reputation of Israel, turning the US public against it, hardly a victory, rather a defeat in that eventually the spigot of supply to Israel from the US will be turned off.

Bill—below find my second send in your direction today. It needs spreading.
Tucker Carlson, of all people, had the below comments, which I’ve culled from my source, yesterday’s Moon of Alabama. Elsewhere is hypothesized the likely strategic objective of this huge amount of ordnance, which is to do unto Lebanon what has been largely (but not completely yet) to Gaza.
How big is this shipment? It amounts to 40,000 tons of bombs. For perspective, the largest American air raid of World War Two was the Eighth Air Force’s attack on Berlin in March of 1945. Combined, the 2,023 Allied aircraft involved dropped about 3,000 tons of bombs. That’s 7.5 percent of what Trump is sending to Israel. That same month, March of 1945, the US Army Air Forces began the single most destructive bombing raid in human history, Operation Meetinghouse over Tokyo. More than 100,000 Japanese civilians were killed. By the end of that operation, the US had dropped 1,600 tons of bombs. That’s four percent of what Trump is sending to Israel. World War Two ended five months later, when the US dropped an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima. The shipment Trump is sending to Israel amounts to more than three times the destructive power of that nuclear explosion. There is no precedent for what the Trump administration is doing. Nor is there a justification. .. Carlson even rightly predicts that U.S. media would lie about this: So far none of this has received public scrutiny. At some point, inevitably, it will be described in media accounts as an “arms sale.” It is not an arms sale. It is a gift, funded by American taxpayers through the Foreign Military Financing program, an arrangement designed to disguise welfare as capitalism: Congress appropriates money to the executive branch, which transfers the cash to Israel to “buy” American-made weapons, in this case from General Dynamics. The media is doing here is what it likes to accuse others of. It is spreading out right disinformation
